📚 WWW Wednesdays #8

What Are You Reading Wednesdays is a weekly book-blogging meme hosted by Sam at Taking on a World of Words.

The concept is simple, answer the following questions:

  • What are you currently reading?

  • What did you recently finish reading?

  • What do you think you’ll read next?

You can join in to! Just leave a comment with your link at Taking On's blog and then go on an adventure to find what other people are reading.

What are you currently reading?

Nevernight by Jay Kristoff

Nevernight is another one of those books which has been on my TBR list/shelf for longer than I can remember, but I only recently got the courage to pick up (so many pages, so daunting). But now that I am reading it, I'm kicking myself for letting it take so long. It's wonderful, the world-building, the characters, the humour! Looove at first chapter.

What did you recently finish reading?

Empress of a Thousand Skies by Rhoda Belleza

I love me a good space opera, preferring it to hard sci-fi (what can I say, I'm a fantasy girl at heart and too much tech/future/etc. tends to bore me), and Empress of a Thousand Skies was a great example of the genre (in a positive way, of course). A princess hell-bent on revenge and taking over her throne, a pilot trying to prove his innocence and fight prejudice against his people, subterfuge, misdirection, all in space. It's worth it for the fast read and very relevant plot points (in terms of discrimination especially), as well as for the limited-to-no romance reprieve.

What do you think you'll read next?

It's that time of year, folks. And since our October Book (of the Month) Club theme is 'bump in the night' I just had to pick The Grip of It by Jac Jemc as my next read. It's been a while since I've read something that's truly scared me, so I have high hopes for this one. I read so many synopsis of horror novels recently while searching for my next read that I honestly do not remember what this one is about, but from what I remember it deals with a couple. a desire to start fresh, and a new house, and we've all seen enough movies to know how those things tend to work out.

Finger's crossed!

And that's it for my three WWW's this week! If you've read any of the books, have heard about them, or just want to discuss bookish goodness, feel free to comment below!
